What is TLDrop?

TLDrop is a desktop-based software (currently only support Windows 7 or later). The software allows you to find expired domains, deleted or registrable domains, deleted Web 2.0 from Blogger, WordPress, Jimdo, Webs, and Tumblr by crawling many web pages.

TLDrop built with many handy features including standalone domain metrics checker and Wayback Restorer that is frequently used to find expired articles from deleted domains.

Domain Types

Here's some brief information about domain types that TLDrop can handle.

Expired Domain

Collected by TLDrop based on the registrar’s expiration date. The essential purpose of this is that you will be able to track these expired domains later until they're on pending delete state. Or, you can always bid these domains on the auction list.

Deleted Domain

Collected by TLDrop because it was removed from the registry. You can purchase or re-register these domains directly with the regular price.

Expired Web 2.0

It could be Blogger, WordPress, Jimdo, Webs, or Tumblr blogs that removed by their owner. Therefore you can re-register these blogs to their related platform.

Domain Metrics

Tracking important metrics can be done easily with TLDrop Metrics Checker. The software pulls back domain metrics from various platforms. However, some of them require an external API key from SEO Rank.

You can even run the metrics checker without an API key. However, TLDrop will unable to fetch some fields that require it.

Wayback Restorer

TLDrop can parse records from Wayback Machine that produces many readable contents. In that case, you could use it to search for unique contents from deleted domains.

The main idea is that there are many articles published before, but has no longer index on the Search Engines along with their domain names. And we call this an Expired Article.

You might re-post those articles without worrying about the duplicate content warning.

Workflow

Generally, TLDrop is a web crawler tool that gathers links from various web pages.

The web pages that will be crawl are according to the seed items you set yourself before the crawling process begins. Those seed items could be a list of URLs or search queries (keywords).

Then the software will bring the gathered links to the next step. We call this step as Vanity Checker Service. This service has a simple task to validate and decide whether the link is an expired domain, a deleted domain, or expired Web 2.0.

To speed up vanity checking process, caching feature has included since version 2 beta.

TLDrop will repeat this workflow until the number of crawler level that you set in the crawler settings reached.
